Client: Sotheby’s
Project: Martin Margiela Catalogue

A bespoke catalogue for Sotheby’s Paris showing a selection of Martin Margiela couture pieces coming to auction.

Taking my cue from Margiela’s approach to fashion design and his use of exposed and revealed construction techniques, I created a brochure using a naked binding technique where the stitching is not covered. The ‘how to bid card’ was printed with his iconic Tabi boots so that the toes peeked out of the pocket it sat within. The reverse title page used a half tint reflection of the title text to create an impression of transparency. Typography and styling were kept minimal and utilitarian and the choice of paper emphasised this. The typography and sale specific branding were then rolled out across both digital and print collateral.
